From the Inside Out - Conflict Resolution

Target Audience:
This workshop is designed for education professionals, (K-12) teachers, administrative leaders, content specialists, and education majors in Special Education and/or Deaf Education wishing to learn more about conflict resolution methods.
   
Workshop Abstract:
This critical thinking based participatory workshop will explore conflict resolution along with techniques that can result in successful classroom management, positive interactions with colleagues and high performance of communication with paretns. In addition, the workshop will include a segment on developing the leader within.
   
Goals Addressed:
The participants will acquire a wide range of abilities to resolve and analyze situations. They will also be able to implement proactive techniques for conflict resolution and develop strategies for successful communication. They will also be able to identify one's personal style of resolving conflict. This workshop will motivate the participants to implement a peer mediation system within the classroom setting and will help improve the participants' leadership skills with students and colleagues.
   
Improvement Practices:
Upon the completion of the workshop, the participants will be able to incorporate conflict resolution techniques in and out of the classroom. They will be able to determine the appropriate strategies for individual situations. This workshop will help the participants to be able to increase positive interactions with students by creating a supportive climate.
   
Competencies: Willingness of participants to expand his/her knowledge base to become more skilled in communication methods, conflict resolution techniques and leadership skills.
   
Performance Indicators: Implementation of learned techniques during role play activities and pre and post assessments.
   
Preparation Phase: For each hour of instruction, thirty minutes will be utilized gathering, composing and preparing materials for participants.
   
Activities/Mastery:
Activities will include participatory discussions, role play, leadership building exercises and debate. The participants will be expected to develop a written plan for peer (student) conflict resolution according to grade levels and also design a lesson to teach students about conflict resolution utilizing learned strategies.
   
When: This 10 hours workshop will be divided into two days, and
Wednesday, July 18th, 2007 from 2:30 pm - 9 pm with a one hour and a half dinner break from 6 pm - 7:30 pm, and
Thursday, July 19th, 2007 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm with a one hour and a half lunch break from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
Lunch will be on your own.
Participants will be offered the opportunity to receive 10 hours (1.0 PLU credit) for this workshop if the participants meet the mastery level. There will be interpreters to voice/sign during this workshop.
Registration will begin thirty (30) minutes before the published "start" time.

Refunds will be given if notified before March 1, 2007.
